Bourbon Boys Pick The SEC Week V

Malt Licker
If only I wagered exclusively on Gators games, I’d be at 100%. I had no worries going into the UT game, and from the opening kickoff, no worries turned into absolutely no worries. It was tremendous seeing phat phil stomp around like an oversized angry toddler. It was even better watching a sea of puke orange evacuate Neyland like a hurricane was coming. The Auburn/LSU game was entertaining as always, although much more high-scoring than I envisioned. I believe Bowden and F$U should write DC and try to get one of these bailouts the Fed seems to be handing out like candy.

Cuzzin’ Bailey
Big time win last week! The Vuls fans were outtie 5000 circa the end of the 3rd quarter, and let me tell you, HD makes your fan base’s allegiance look that much classier! On a side note that doesn’t involve college football (the horror), the Rays will hopefully have clinched the AL East by the time you read this! Anyways, great weekend of sports last week with the Rays getting in the playoffs, the USA defeating the scumbag Euro-trash in the Ryder Cup and the Bucs playing a little pitch and catch to defeat da’ Bearsss up in Chi-cah-go. Anyways, FSU lost, and I’m ready to hand them the “throwing in the towel” towel for this season. No offense for the Wake Skanks, but FSU could have and UF would have scored like 30 on the Deacs last weekend. That game was sloppy. Well this weekend the Mighty Gators are back at home for a little southern cooking. The Ole Miss Rebs with their new coach come to the Swamp to see just how good (or shitty) Jevan Snead really is…

El Gran Mono
Last week I was called out for various predictions that were deemed to be too harsh and overly critical by a few of the readers. As a disciple of change with hope for a better future I will scrap the tired moniker of the last six years and become…Mr. Positive.

Ole Miss at Florida (-23), 12:30

I’ve been reading Gatorsports all week long and they have been trying to scare me into thinking that just cause the Rebels have Snead and Nutt they should be considered legitimate. Let me tell you, Ole Miss is like the Clemson of the SEC. It seems like folks always want them to BE good, after all they gave us Archie and Eli, and yet it never seems to pan out. Albeit, considering we have dropped 2 of the last 3 to the Rebels, they have a little room to talk, but that was under shitforbrains Ron Zook. And I still to THIS DAY believe that the ineligible receiver down field call at the end of the 02 game was total horseshit. Oh man I just realized that game was on my birthday, well fucking happy birthday to me huh? Anyways, I believe that Snead is probably special and that the Malt Licker would juggle Houston’s Nutts if offered, but I’m liking Urban ball version 2008, (a little special teams here, a lotta defense there, and some outstanding offensive talent). I’m sure at some point it will be close, but the boys from Old Florida will have this in the bag by halftime (with a few picks) and the media’s gonna tell me how boring it is to win without crazy highlights. I’ll take the wins, and since I’ll be there this weekend it will be extra sweet. GO GATORS!

Both of these schools love football. Even though they both lost last week, they are really excited to play this week. Competition is tons of fun. Tennessee will be bringing a very spry young puppy named Smokey to be their good luck charm. Auburn likes their team so much they have three different good luck names. They also have a quaint town with lots of tea shops and places with good cookies. I LOVE COOKIES!!

Auburn’s QB is an excellent young man who loves to throw the football. Even though he doesn’t throw well all the time, he still loves to play so much that he can’t stop throwing. Tennessee’s QB is full of spunk and self confidence. He’ll be a great real estate guy someday like Heath Shuler (maybe even a Congressman). Its so hard to pick winners and losers when you are having this much fun. I have a feeling the Auburn running back will have a super day though because the Volunteer lineman will be having fun with Auburn’s lineman. Can I play too!

This game got postponed due to Tropical Storm so and so…man, I wish I had picked this game two weeks ago. This was boner move. At least a few weeks back I would have been a bit more delusional to how much Psuedo-Kansas sucks! Just how much they blow would have been very, very useful information last week when I (embarrassed shrug) picked them to cover the line last weekend hosting Bama. To all you Tide fans out there, I apologize. That was really stupid. Anyways, it looks like Colt McCoy, (badass name btw) is having a pretty baller year right now, averaging 60 on the ground and passing pretty well and it looks like Bobby Petrino has no idea how to coach defense anymore so I’m going with Tejas big, 27 big? A rivalry unlike any other! The Battle of the Bluegrass State! The Mighty Hilltoppers of Bowling Green …alright that’s enough. The odds are yall didn’t have Keith Jackson’s voice in your head when you were reading it like I did so that’s going nowhere. WKU has some tradition I suppose, in the NCAA tourney they are one of the 12 seeds I traditionally pick to upset a 5! The campus, “located atop one of the highest points in Southcentral Kentucky”…did you get that, not THE highest point in S.Central Ky, but ONE OF THE. That is impressive. Kensucky is coming off a strong bye week. I presume they won. Anyways, judging by this spread I’m guessing the Hilltoppers suck at football and I’m just gonna roll with that assumption. Go ‘Cats.

The Gamecocks haven’t had a great time playing against the other schools this year. But they are really excited to have the chance to play against the Blazers. What a fun mascot they have! UAB has so much fun playing they really don’t care about the score. Its also doubly hard for them to play on the road, they miss Birmingham so much its hard not to think about it during the game. Steve Spurrier is a very fun coach and I’m guessing he’ll have a lot of fun playing in this game.

Miss State is just living the dream this year. Its like they are touring around celebrating last season’s successes every game. They must be having a lot of fun. They played against Georgia Tech last week and had a bunch of offensive yards but decided to give the ball to Georgia Tech a few times just to be nice. They really liked watching the Wing T offense in action. Who doesn’t right? It was really disappointing that we missed that game while drinking beers at Calhoun’s. Luckily, in two years we will have a boat just like those fun Tennessee fans. I’m sure they will welcome us with open arms!

LSU had a great win against another team called the Tigers. That must have been confusing. LOL! I’m sure it wasn’t a big deal because they were having such great time playing on such a beautiful night. In fact, it was such a beautiful night that one of LSU’s QBs took the entire second half off to look at the stars. His best friend decided to play QB the rest of the game and have a great time by throwing the ball all over the place. What a win-win situation! The Bulldogs will have a great time celebrating their bowl season in Baton Rouge, its such a wonderful city full of cosmopolitan people and great sites to see. However, since they come from Starkville, its really hard leave such a beautiful place.

Game of the week in the SEC!!! Black out in Athens!!!! Satan v. the Prick!!!! I heard a coach for the Tide said that Georgia fans are going to a funeral, so the black is apropos. I love the confidence, although I’m not sure Bama can pull this off, although I’d love to see it. The Tide has looked pretty strong through the first month of football, and, other than Knowshon, the Dawgs offense looks pretty pedestrian. Seven points is WAAAAY too much to lay, I say the Dawgs win, but not by much.

Bourbon Boys Pick The SEC Week IV

El Gran Mono
Ohio State sucks. Is that huge news? Last year, LSU had a very average offense and they steamrolled Ohio State’s defense. The year before, UF had a very average offense and they steamrolled Ohio State’s defense. When are people going to realize that the Big Ten is terrible and that’s why Ohio State sucks every year? Gary Danielson summed it up today on the best radio show going, The Herd. He said, how do we not have a playoff, because everyone wants to see USC play whomever makes it out of the SEC. And Big Gary (sorry, about the bad memories CB) is completely right, the winner of the SEC deserves to play for the title even with TWO losses! Am I preaching to the choir here? No doubt, but at the same time it is logistically true. Its not just hope and more hope, it’s a fucking fact.

This week we welcome “Ben Hill Bootlegger.” What can I say about this guy? A typical day for him: drinking to excess, talking a lot of shit, “hanging out” at notorious homosexual public sex venues, and finishing things off with a Baconater. One of my best friends! Welcome, welcome…

I will personally be enjoying this weekend in beautiful Knoxvegas at my cousin’s spacious lair, drinking copious amounts of libations and enjoying glorious camaraderie. It really doesn’t get any better. Let’s get to the football, SON!

Malt Licker
Whoaaaaaa Diggity!!!! It’s the first full slate of SEC Games this year. With the exception of something called Wofford, all the games are pretty good. Monkey boy is heading to Knoxville, where he will drink himself silly at O’Charley’s. Two key matchups, one in the East and one in the West, should bring some clarity to the SEC race. I need my own plane so I could fly into the Smokeys and join the Monkey on Cumberland Avenue.

Cuzzin’ Bailey
Last week’s bye week was boring as hell. I mean I had fun, but the games were absolutely miserable. SC/OSU was a yawn fest, UGA looked about as vulnerable as possible and Auburn Miss State was quite literally ALL ABOUT DEFENSE. Former guest Bourbon Boy, The Mud Hen, was actually in attendance in Stark-Vegas last week and apparently received glares from Bulldog fans when he stood up and pleaded to the MSU sidelines to kick a long field goal on 4th and long. Apparently at Mississippi State, they are ALL about offense and get angry when they have to settle for field goals. Well, last week they “settled” for ONE safety and lost. Freaking idiots. Speaking of former guest Bourbon Boys, the Dinner Cruise Gambler had a story he asked me to pass along. Its rather long so I’ll just get to the point. A stock Meee-ami fan was acting a fool at the UM/UF game a few weeks ago, when out of the sky came a Lemonade bomb. Long story short, Senor Cane took cover for the rest of the game in an undisclosed location. Don’t mess with our students, he was lucky it was actually lemonade!

Ben Hill Bootlegger
Let me started by thanking EGM, CB, and ML for the opportunity to write with them. Now, I want you to understand that I respect the many years of service and the difficulty of the job that these men have endured to entertain all of us in this blog. However, I feel that so far this year all of us have been cheated. How are we ‘the people’ suppose to determine what we think will happen in these games with only one person doing the commentating for every game - come on! Because the two lawyas and their little lawya in training have continued on this grievous course, I am stepping forward to help ‘the people’. I care about you, and if they want to continue on this path, it is time for a change. A vote for BHB is a vote for CHANGE. What they fuck just happened - I blacked out. As an additional treat this week, I will be going old school and picking the over/under in each game.

I guess this could be dubbed the Back-Stabbing Liars Bowl. The Traitor Tussle. Betrayers R ‘Us. Squinty-eyed Petrino is in the midst of rebuilding, while the Tide delusionists think “they’re back.” Surprisingly this series is relatively close, as ‘Bama has a narrow 10-8 edge. I am not too impressed with either team. I think the Hawgs home field will do nothing to help them out, and the Tide will Rollllllllll to victory

Welcome to Fayetteville, Arkansas where the only thing worth noting is that John “Double Down” Daly went to college here. Nick Satan brings his all-time 4-2 record against the Razorbacks into Fayetteville for the first time as the Lord Almighty of Tuscaloosa. He brings with him his three-name QB and a pretty good group of WRs. The Razorbacks may have lost their Houston NUTTs, but don't worry, they still have their Casey DICK. For this game, Bobby Petrino might drive up to Leavenworth Federal Prison and pickup a new recruit that he has coached before, but the Razorbacks will not lay down for this one. The Tide won this game last year with :08 to go. This one will be closer than the experts say. Take the over at 46.5.

This is always a great rivalry game. One that sticks out in my mind is the 1994 affair. I remember it so clearly cause Auburn was on their 10+ game winning streak and was on probation by the NCAA. LSU took a 14 point lead into the 4th quarter when the Bengal Tiger QB tossed like 5 picks in ONE QUARTER, 3 of which were returned for touchdowns. The Jefferson Pilot (aka Raycom) shitbox camera work couldn’t take away from the excitement that day. Of course while I generally wish the host stadium would implode during this game, this game generally provides some serious craziness. Anyways, I guess its time for my yearly joke about this game, “I believe the Tigers will win this one”…terrible.

BHB
You might as well call this one the SEC West title game, because the winner of this game has also won the West 6 out of the last 8 years. This game, being in Jordan-Hare Stadium, does not sit well for the real Tigers of Louisiana. This game is going to be won on the ground. Going in, both teams are ranked in the top 25 for rushing yards. Auburn struggled last week against the Croomster in the biggest offensive shoot out since the gun fight scene at the end of HEAT (That was for you CB). The Plaintigerwareagles and the Croomster's Dawgs racked up a massive 5 total points last week. They might be without the starting RB Brad Lester, who nearly Prothroed his neck last week. My only hope in this game, is that Auburn's Kicker, Wes Byrum gets killed by Mike the Tiger, who mistakenly is let out of his cage. Camera pans to a shocked Tommy Tuberville and then pans to Les Miles as he raises his right hand and waves it back and forth several times across his face. Fade out. END SCENE. Go under at 37.5.

I’m so confident about this game, it makes me nervous. From what I’ve seen out of Crompton and the rest of the Vols, I feel like unless we pull a ’98 and turn the ball over a bunch, we should cruise. The Vols strength on offense is their running game, and our defensive front looks pretty tough. Percy will get loose, thrust himself into the Heisman picture, and lead the Gators to a big victory.

SEC football is here. Look for this one to get ugly, and get ugly quick. Look for the Vols to pick their poison and the Gators to exploit it. The Vols secondary appeared shakey against a weak UCLA, allowing 259 passing yards. Look for Tebow to punish Fat Phil's Team with a barrage of smash mouth running and deep bombs to Louis and Percy. Phil already has his comforting Sunday loser's brunch ordered at Calhoun's on the River. Tennessee has not been able to run the ball for the last two years, averaging just 13 yds on the ground, and they won't improve this year with their steady diet of Sprint Draws. Smokey will need a massive order of shit and grass to help deal with his upset stomach after this game. Sorry Auburn, this train is a rolling. Toughest line of the week, take the over at 51.5.

This is actually going to be a pretty good game, and not for the typical reason (that being that they both suck). No, this time its gonna be a good one cause these teams are actually decent. Well, the scale of “decentness” is rather subjective. Vandy is decent cause they aren’t the fucking worst team ever this time around, and Ole Miss is decent b/c they are actually on an upward swing, contending against good programs and such. Its actually making me nervous about the Gators playing the Rebs next week. Well maybe just a bit. In this game I’m really liking Ole Miss. Let me look it up on the internet. (time elapsed). We’re back…Oh here was my problem, UK has played 3 games, two of which were against Norfolk St, and MTSU. Next week’s challenge is the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, and that is it for cupcakes. An ALL SEC schedule after that with one more bye week at the end of the season. HAHA! Maybe I’ll select this team for that bye week as well as a little “State of the Union” recap. Bourbon Boys Pick The SEC 2008 Week III

Cuzzin’ Bailey
You may have noticed that the Gator game was especially loud last week. Whether its accurate or not, I am going to take full credit on that one. Anyone who talked to me after the game noticed 2 things. First, I was probably still pretty drunk from the all day nightmare tailgate, no eat, drink-fest. And secondly, my voice was gone, and I’m not talking “Johnny’s got a hoarse throat let’s give him a lozenge,” a Ricola © would have melted at the “sight” of my throat. I’m probably gonna need that Gayle Sierens, scream too much, surgery when I’m older. (Sorry for the obscure local newscaster reference, I’m on a deadline here). Anyways, thank God the Gators are off this week to give my voice a little break, but not thank God cause the only game that was supposed to be exciting opened up with a double digit spread.

El Gran Mono
Last week’s games proved to be as craptacular as everyone thought. We did learn that Miami has a pretty good defense or possibly that Florida’s offense may be a little overrated. However, neither of those conclusions is very surprising. Most of the college football media tend to blow everything out of proportion. I guess that’s their job and it makes them feel edgy, almost as edgy as Cuzzin Bailey before his first law school exam. I’d give up the picks title to have those few days on video tape. I digress, USC-Ohio State looks to be the game of the century…hmm, that’s what the media is saying so I’ll bet its more of a defensive struggle than anyone thinks. USC is very good, but beating UVA didn’t tell us anything. Will Ohio State prove unworthy of a top matchup again? I’m betting so.

Malt Licker
Gators are off, so we can all rest for a week before the clash against the Vols in K-ville. Hopefully by then the sound of the whines from Coral Gables will subside. It’s another piss poor slate of SEC games. Fortunately, there is one major marquee matchup Saturday night as the Buckeyes look to get embarrassed by another talented team from outside the midwest.

Its hard to be surprised at this line. Not to say that UGA isn’t the better team of course, but this Spurrier run Cock team tends to play the Dawgs, at the very least, marginally well and in fact last year, USC won in Athens! I guess this is a better Jawga team as its hard to imagine the same team with the same players getting worse after having a really great year, and there’s no doubt that the Cocks offense is freaking terrible, but a couple of lucky plays and some great defense could make this closer than Bulldog fans would like.

This is a good warm up game for the Vols knowing that they are gonna have to give it their all next week against the Gators. Tennessee hasn’t played since losing to an overmatched UCLA team opening weekend. That one had the potential to be a statement game by going out to the Left Coast and killing some of the hype of Rick Neuheisel’s return, but instead a botched field goal in OT and its back to the drawing board. Personally I love how UT had a bye last week. They got to mope around for an entire week wondering what could have been and what should have been and practiced their asses off all last week for nothing. Now all their hard work and they get to face an opponent who’s 0-2 and looking really shitty this year. I like the Vols big this week as they’ll try and prove to the country they aren’t a total joke, and the country will probably buy that, at least for a week.

Good lord, the Mean Green have allowed 500 yards and 50 points in each of their first two games. The boys from Denton, TX face a well-rested and no doubt anxious group of Cajuns, who may cover the spread in the first half alone. They are horrible, were 2-10 last year and lost to FIU.

Kind of a boner move to pick UF this week, but at least I get to talk about what a great time I had last weekend tailgating before the 8pm (7 central) kickoff at the Swamp. There was all sorts of drinking and BS’ing going on with the Malt Licker and the guest Bourbon Boy The Dinner Cruise Gambler. To be entirely honest, the first half was kind of a blur. Not cause I had too much to drink, but well, I mean I’m sure that had something to do with it, but cause with all the punting it seemed to fly by. Thankfully the second half was slowed up around the beginning of the 4th when the Gators finally poured it on the Canes. And then came the real embarrassing moment of the weekend. No, I’m not talking about how I slept in my car and my back was killing me (hell its still killing me). I’m referring to the Co-Canes coach Shannon talking smack about Urb. Ya just don’t do that Randy. If you don’t want him scoring on you, then tell your players to stop’em til the horn sounds. You can try and get us back in 5 years or whatever, if you’re still the HC, which I have my doubts about.

Bourbon Boys Pick The SEC 2008 Week II

Well we learned a few things last week, namely, that Clemzzzon and the ACC are overrated. Although, can I really say I learned something, especially when it was something I already knew? The Gators looked pretty good, but Hawaii’s QB played the 2nd and 3rd quarter with diarrhea running down his leg. I must say I am pretty pumped about this week’s game against “da U.” I can’t wait to send all 500 of their fans back home to dee majeeek seetee of meeeahhhhhmeeee crying in their mojitos.

Cuzzin’ Bailey
Day-um! Already some very nice games in the mix in College Football in general, let alone the SEC! I really don’t consider the Bama Clemzin game an upset though, to be for real. Clemson is always hyped up b/c I think they are like the “feel good” team of the ACC, the team that everyone (outside of Columbia, SC) just wants to do well. Well, once again, the sympathetic media’s hopes have been dashed as Alabama gave these kitties an SEC pounding. On the other side of upsets was Tennessee, maybe they will learn to stop trying to show off by traveling to the Left Coast and getting their asses kicked. It loses its coolness when you keep losing to teams you should beat btw…

El Gran Mono

Last week was a tough start for both Tim Tebow and yours truly. I’m expecting a big comeback this week for the both of us. Strangely enough, Miami-UF appears to be the biggest game of the week. But with Norfolk State and Southeastern LA gracing the picks column this week that’s not really a crazy thing. When does this SEC season start?

Who the hell was that guy starting for South Carolina last week? You’ll be asking yourself that same question after this game. Smelley was a very talented player coming out of high school and I think NC State was his coming out party. The Cocks’ defense looked tough against NC State but believe it or not, Vandy is more talented than NC State. Wolfpack fans have Chuck Amato to thank for that.

Vandy destroyed Miami like a smallpox outbreak. Chris Nickson is back in the fold so I like Vandy’s chances at making it to a bowl game. They’ll keep this one under 10 no problem.

I see ‘Bama is on the cover of SI. I can smell the cock-eyed optimism emanating from Tuscaloosa, or maybe it is just the stench of their urine/beer soaked houndstooth garments that are so popular there these days. Seriously though, was this unexpected? Saban v. Tommy Bowden is like Cortez v. the Aztecs, especially with all summer to prepare. I don’t know a thing about Tulane, except that Tommy Bowden used to coach there. If he were still there I’d take ‘Bama to cover, but he’s not, so I see a letdown.

Hey Razorbacks, this isn’t the NCAA tourney, it is NOT okay to barely beat a shitbox team like Western Illinois. I guess Bobby Petrino just hasn’t found his niche as the top dog of yet another team (in what 3 years?). If they continue to have close games like this, and then enter the SEC schedule playing like a bunch of monkeys don’t be surprised if good ol’ Bobby cuts ands runs to a better job. (Well ANOTHER job anyways). The La.-Monroe Warhawks, (formerly the Northeastern Louisiana Indians, formerly the Louisiana Monroe Indians), got thumped last weekend by an Auburn team still trying to get its feet wet, so that might help to squash any thought of an upset here, but after the Hogs showed NO sign of a running game last week and actually had to rally late to beat an awful Missouri Valley team, anything is possible.

I would be more interested in this game if Brett Favre could un-retire from being a pro and come back to college. On paper I give USM less than zero chance heading into Jordan-Hare Stdm to face the number 10 team in the country, but it sounds like Auburn is having trouble with their new spread offense (like every other school that’s new to it). Auburn had to go “old school” (see: SEC Pre-Spurrier) and run the shit out of the ball last week, so I would look for more of that until their current QB can get a handle on the new system.

I will never forget the angriest person I’ve ever seen in my life, a 90 pound Cuban girl/UM student, pass out after finding out she was not getting into the game, although not before directing the full force of her ire at yourself and El Gran Mono. I went in fully expecting to lose, but the Zooker raised my hopes, only to see them dashed by his calling card, the 4th quarter collapse. The Orange Bowl is gone, and I would bet my life that the 90 pounder now has 3 kids and has nearly doubled her weight. Former Plant High star and son of former Buccaneer linebacker, Robert Marve is making his first collegiate start in the Swamp against the heavily favored Gators. Part of me feels like I should be a bit worried, but then I realized how much Urban appreciates history. He knows how long it has been since UF beat the Canes, and he will put the hammer down.

Those dirty Dawgs tried it the classy way, but that blew up in their faces last week. Starting the season AT a D-1A school? That was very stupid, esp for a team that is just one season away from being the laughing stock of the conference. Sure last year they swept the state of Alabama, but I have to believe that it was a weird one for those schools (well except for Alabama-Birmingham, they just generally suck). Anyways, I guess what I’m trying to say here is that this week, against a cupcake, is the way to do it at MSU. Next time up, start the year by staying at home in the pastures, cow-tipping, embarrassing the rest of the State and playing an awful team.

Bourbon Boys Pick The SEC 2008 Week I

El Gran Mono

Football is upon us. Life is good. If you bet with me, then you made money. Damn close to 60% on the picks. That’s why I’m the champ!

Last year, the SEC embarrassed Ohio State AGAIN in the BCS Championship game to once again show that the Big Ten is weak. The SEC looks to be tough again this year with UGA, UF, LSU and Auburn capable of winning it all. Should be fun!

In other news, the fun loving Cuzzin’ Bailey has taken it upon himself to become the third steward of the courts among our jacked and tan SEC prognostication trifecta. Can he balance his schedule of copious Coors Lights drinking with Torts, Contracts and Property? Let the games begin in more than one way.

Malt Licker

Wow….is it finally here? Time flies when you’re living in the richest, oldest, whitest town on the west coast of Florida. That’s right, the Malt Licker is further from Gainesville, and shouldering more responsibility than ever. As such, my free time is limited, which makes me glad the Bourbon Boys decided on a new format. It was a disappointing year for the Gators, despite St. Tebow the Skin Snipper’s Heisman heroics. But a new season is upon us, and I am focused on one thing, revenge!!! Revenge against the Bayou Bengals, revenge against Auburn, and finally…revenege against UGA and its scumbag coach.

Cuzzin’ Bailey

Well another season of College Football is almost upon us! This year, while I am beyond excited about the Gators and closer to Gaines-burg than I’ve been since I graduated, I will also, ironically, be busier than I guess I have ever been. (Between you and me, I think I’ve studied more in the past week than I ever did at UF). Anyways, as I said I’m so jacked about the Gators this year. Everything this offseason has appeared to fall into place with the exception of losing Cornelius Ingram to a serious ca-nee injury. Meyer is excited about the secondary which is probably just coach-speak, but right now I’m ready to run on a little faith. As I said, exciting season coming up, and with a new format to the picks column, I welcome you all to be a part of it with the ‘Boys…

I plan on making it a habit of picking the ‘Doremats’ games this year, b/c I don’t think either one of the other Bourbon Boys has anywhere near the distain for this football team. They are perennially horrible (unless they have a diabetes stricken first rounder), and they aren’t even the best school in the conference academically. I say exile these posers and bring in a team that will at least care about winning and losing football games! Hell I’ll bet USF would love to show us what they got week in and week out. Is there any bad blood between these "Carolina" neighbors? You'd think wolves and roosters wouldn't mix well outside of Aesopville.

NC State is an awful team. They used to be fairly competitive but Boobs Amato destroyed any semblance of prosperity.

Spurdog had the Cocks out to a good start last year but the SEC grinded them down to .500 after being ranked briefly in the Top 10. This season they should get better QB play from either Smelley and/or drunk-all-the-time Stephen Garcia. The real strength of the South Carolina is their secondary that was at or near the top of best units in the country last year. They should shutdown whatever passing game NC State brings to the table. The Cocks struggled stopping the run last year; however, NC State doesn't have the running game to exploit this weakness.

This game should show the contrast between the mid-to-bottom level of the SEC versus the ACC.

Expectations are a bitch. Tommy Bowden knows this and has NEVER lived up to any of them. Please tell me how he is still coaching at Clemzon after blowing that game against BC last year. I understand that Matt “really overrated” Ryan was playing but seriously BC was terrible. The rest of the ACC wasn’t much better and they still couldn’t even make it to the championship game.

Bama wasn’t much better last year. They were loaded at the skill positions yet lost to some truly pathetic teams. Saban needs to flush some of Mike Shula’s shit out, including JPW, otherwise they aren’t going anywhere this year. I look for Bama to attempt to run the ball heavily; however, Tommy doesn’t coach defense so they are actually decent and should stop them.

Tennessee is not scared of road games to start the season and they have always been good out of conference. I just don’t see UCLA and Bracketologist Rick Neuheisel putting up much of a fight. The 7.5 is a sucker bet, but I’ll lay the points anyways because I’m the champ SON!

Bourbon Boys Pick The SEC Week XIV

Cuzzin’ Bailey

Well its been a totally fucked up and psychotic season, I guess the only thing remaining that could happen would be for Tennessee to win in a rout and Mizzou to beat the Okies by 70. That would pretty much sum up what kind of year we are having. The only problem is it looks like with a Missouri loss, the douche-bag Buckeyes will backdoor their way into the national title game, and not like last year where the Gators won a championship game and were voted in, but by sitting on their loser Ohio asses and doing jackshit. Losing to Illinois and then beating a pathetic Michigan team. Fucking congrats you mid-west losers. That is, of course, assumes that Mizzou loses, which I am doing. Anyways, good season I guess, I mean I could have done without the Auburn and UGA losses, but what are you gonna do. The other two BBoys are so happy that Houston Nutt is still in the SEC I think they are gonna go in their shorts. Hmm what else? Oh yea, Go Gators; til Bowl Season bitches…

Well its Championship Week but the champion of the best conference won’t be participating in the national title game. That makes sense. Tennessee vs LSU (-7.5), 4

CB

Two games to pick this week, one that I greatly lament picking b/c the Gators are not involved. We beat UT by 39 points earlier in the season which is nice to think about when they are playing for the Conference Title, but I’m not going to act like a sore loser. We had our shots, just like UGA, who the Tigers should be very thankful they aren’t playing in this game, but let’s be honest, UT is playing tough ball right now too. They got their act together late against Vandy which was huge in ruining day 1 of 2 of “it sucks to be a Bulldog fan”. On Day 2, they went like 4 OTs with UK and finally pulled out a winner, pissing off UGA fans everywhere and definitely making me laugh. Anyways, this game will come down to two factors: 1) will the multiple OT games that both teams went through last week throw in a fatigue factor and 2) will the recent loss, and the rumors about Les “the Joke” Miles leaving have any affect on the Tigers players. I definitely think that fatigue is gonna be an issue leading to some sloppy play early in the game, but the notion that LSU has really nothing to play for now, after controlling their own destiny as recent as last Friday will decide the game. UT has a new found resurgence and not only do I like them to beat the spread, I like them to win.

VULS 24

TIGRES 22

EGM

LSU blew their shot at the Nat’l Title last week. Ol’ Les Miles luck ran out and shitty playcalling got the better of them. If LSU could develop any of their stud players then they would be unstoppable. Luckily for the rest of the SEC and country, they cannot. As for this game, the Cajun defense has looked very human in recent weeks. Even Brent Schaeffer moved the ball on them successfully. Erik Ainge is pretty savvy and the Vol backs are underrated. I think they will move the ball on LSU and put up at least 4 TDs. As for LSU’s offense, aka slot screen, Hester counter, other RB sweep, Flynn draw. They are pretty much a waste of time and rely too much on mistackling and cutbacks. UT will give up points to this simplistic system but in the end I think Miles’ team will give up on him because they know he is gone. Let’s just hope Spurdog doesn’t end up there.

I don’t know how these teams will be able to rally the troops after emotionally draining games last week. Les S U saw their national title dreams shattered by a team whose coach just accepted a job with their divisional rival. That just shows how crazy a year it has been. The Hawgs exposed LSU’s vaunted defense and sent the Cajuns home to cry in their gumbo. Phat Phil is probably the most maligned coach to ever win the SEC East, but he managed to save his job (I think) by outlasting the Wildcats. Both these teams will be drained, but LSU has more talent and had an extra days rest.

So with the Mountaineers locked into the National Championship game for all intents and purposes, it all comes down to this game to see who will advance to face West Vagina in the BCS champ game. If Mizzou wins, they will hold onto their lead and this will be the lamest sounding title game in a long time. As I said earlier, if the Sooners win the Big XII, then OSU will go and this will be the second lamest sounding title game in history. Those two reasons alone would be enough for me to warrant a playoff. I have heard from every tv/radio personality all week about this game. I heard that OU has no pass rush and that will play right into Mizzou’s hands with Daniel being a great runner etc, and how the Tigers were totally in the game they lost which was AT Norman, until THEY fucked up and gave the game the Sooner’s. I have also heard that OU is playing some great ball right now, and other than the fluke loss to an alright Colorado team and a loss AT Texas Tech (a place I challenge any team to go to and come out alive), they out match Missouri in most aspects. I guess the bottom line is that I really don’t give a shit. OU wins and we have to hear about the Buckeyes again, which is a nightmare; if Mizzou wins, then I will go to a movie the night of the national championship game (not really but since when I have I NOT used hyperbole to express my points?). Its been a wild year, I just hope if the Gators play Illinois (the “S” is silent) we smoke the fightin’ Zookers.

Mizzou showed the world that Kansas was not a top team last week. The Jayhawks looked like a deer in headlights and Chase Daniel looked like a Mack truck getting ready to turn them into roadkill. Oklahoma looked pedestrian against Tejas Tech after Bradford went down. He’s the key to their offense with his accuracy and sweet ass deep balls. Both teams should put up some points but I’m betting on Daniel to take the Heisman away from Tebow. I just feel karma is not with the Gators this year. Sorry Ohio State, enjoy Columbus, I hear its awesome this time of year…kind of like Lagos with snow.

Even if Chase Daniel throws for 600 yards and 12 TDs, he still should not win the Heisman. Those of you who feel differently should check out www.he15man.net to learn the truth. Don’t get me wrong, Daniel is very good, and I hear he has bagged all the stars of Laguna Beach (male and female). In fact, I hope he plays well against the Sooners subpar pass defense. If only to ensure that the Suckeyes get to go to the Rose Bowl. I know how much that means to them.

Bourbon Boys Pick The SEC Week XIII

We had a email SNAFU but FAMOUS AMOS! has been added.

Malt Licker

It’s rivalry week football fans! Which also means it’s turkey day. My chances at victory hinge on this weekend. I need something like a 7-2 to have a chance to retake the league. Lord knows I’m due. Kudos to Famous Amos for stepping up as the first guest Bourbon Boy in quite some time, especially in light of the fact that his team just lost to La-Mo. I expect much bitterness about how Tebow turned down Shula and Bama for Urban and the Gator Nation.

Cuzzin’ Bailey

Well last week was bitter sweet. We got to see some badass records get broken by some stud Gators, but UGA also beat UK in a somewhat close game that ended the Gators hopes for a repeat at the SEC Championship Title. Oh well, things don’t always work out the way you want them to, you have to move on, I was trying not to end this sentence with a preposition, oh well, oh wait, there you go… damnit! Now the only question is who should we root for from the SEC East and why. Well we could root for UT since we beat them and that would be cool to be able to say we beat the East rep, but then that would fuck our (slim) chances of getting a BCS at-large bid, you know what, this is too depressing to talk about. FSU is this week, I hope we humiliate the Noles, they act like Tebow is garbage; I just don’t understand how that is possible. I mean are we all not seeing the same games?? Anyways, happy Thanksgiving, please don’t call it Turkey Day, that is so gay…

El Gran Mono

Mmmm turkey. I love eating turkey and watching some football. But who doesn’t? I bet Tim Tebow eats two turkeys for Thanksgiving and washes it does with three gallons of milk. As for the games this week, its rivalry time. Mucho personal fouls and big hits. Hatred and discontent. Drinking and debauchery. Extending two game leads…let’s get it on.

Famous Amos!

Gentlemen, thank you for allowing me to be a guest Bourbon Boy again this year. I’ve been fortunate enough to be a guest several times over the past five years, but unfortunately I’ve missed every Iron Bowl pick. I was hoping with this year’s new Alabama coach, Jesus Paul “Bear” Saban, that it would be different. But after last weekend’s loss to a Division 5 school, I fear the worst on Saturday. Before we get to the picks, let’s look at the BCS standings as they currently sit. Could Kansas, Missouri, or West Virginia last two weeks in the SEC? Not a chance. Lastly, here’s a name that will probably show up in next year’s post: Julio Jones. Write it down. Remember it.

We’ve had another GREAT season of SEC football, now on to the picks!

Ole Miss @ Mississippi State (-7), 12:30

ML

Ahhh…my favorite rivalry game this side of Oregon’s “Civil War,” the Battle for the Golden Egg. This game used to be played exclusively at Jackson’s Veteran’s Memorial Stadium, because the two campus stadiums had capacities below 42,000. Sly’s krewe finds themselves already bowl eligible, favored, and at home. Anything less than a victory will be a disappointment. There is a big difference between 7-5 and 6-6. Meanwhile, Orgeron must feel like he’s being led to the top of a Mayan pyramid going into this game. A loss and he may find himself heartless as well as jobless.

Beep…beep…beep…beep………………. 17

Golden Egg bowl. Until about four weeks ago, I honestly thought that the Rebels were at least going to have a chance at winning this game. The only thing they have going for them is the fact that is a big rivalry. If this were just another douchebag game, then the Dawgs would be favored by double digits.

Ahh, the Egg Bowl. I like my eggs slightly scrambled, slightly fried and sprinkled with Cajun seasoning. I bet Ed Orgeron eats eggs for pre-breakfast. Speaking of shitty Ed, how the hell is he not getting fired? Apparently the Ole Miss powers-that-be love this guy. Maybe they are just giving up and focusing their efforts on trying to understand one sentence written by William Faulkner. Miss State has the more impressive record but I don’t think they are that much better than the Rebs. I really doubt that Sly’s bowl bound krew should be favored by seven against anyone outside of the Big Ten. I’m actually gonna say this…sigh…Brent Schaeffer keeps this close.

Does anyone care? Well, besides the entire state of Mississississippi? If you’re kidnapped and forced to watch this game, be sure to catch #74 on the Ole Miss O-line – Michael Oher. I recently finished the book, The Blind Side, by Michael Lewis. Great book that follows this 6-6, 322 lb. kid from homeless in Tennessee to a guaranteed first-round NFL pick. BUT, despite being recruited from all the major power houses, he goes to Ole Miss?! I hope you can find him on the field, because he’ll be the only interesting thing in Shaggy Hair Bowl 07.

Whoo hoo the “Battle for the Golden Boot” pits Nutt, McFadden & Co. vs. the number 1 team in all the land. This is a relatively new rivalry, the Golden boot was only introduced in 1996. This is an awesome trophy: Golden Boot. It weighs 175 pounds and is believed to be the heaviest trophy in college football, and quite possibly the universe. (No trophy wife would ever weigh more than this). For those geographically It is the outline of Louisiana and Arkansas, so it does look like a boot. Just awesome. It has been rumored that one of my favorite coaches…nay people, in all the land is leaving Fayetteville. It’s interesting how this surfaced weeks before primary season. Dare to dream.

The only thing riding on this game for me is that the Tigers just need to keep winning to make sure the Buckeyes don’t back door their way into the National Title game. In re: to the game, I could see this one being a little closer than the 12 point spread. Not that Arkansas has really done anything to warrant my faith in the past few weeks. Sure they beat up on the recently surprising MSU Bulldogs last week, but they really got lucky covering that spread at all. I don’t know I just find it very difficult to say that Darren McFadden is through. I have this ridiculous feeling that the Razorbacks are gonna play their fucking hearts out on Friday. I am totally giving away any ground I have made up in the past few weeks, aren’t I, eh screw that, Rage on Cajuns…

One maxim taken from this year: Arkansas is bad on the road. Well, at least 2/3 times because they only play four road games this year. What a waste. LSU had a better defense last year and Arkansas kept the game close with some huge McFadden runs and a kickoff return. After the Vols shut down Arkansas, I have less faith in them. Especially since Jones is hurt. As good as McFadden is, Jones allows him to absorb less carries. Casey Dick is just terrible and so is the Arkansas secondary. Matt Flynn should pick them apart as he is much healthier. This game is almost a steal. Houston Nutt is finished in the SEC as of c. 5:00 PM CST. Run for prez Houston!

SEC football at its finest! Auburn had their foot on LSU’s throat, Alabama had a chance to beat them, but LSU has escaped the SEC this year and have a #1 spot in the country as a reward. I don’t anticipate Arkansas can do anything to stop this train, but it’s always fun to watch McFadden. Speaking of McFadden, have you seen his car? He looks like a really BIG Kanye West, but even with the Good Life on his side, they won’t have enough to stop LSU.

PC alert!!!! I could be talking about the Beer Barrel right now. Unfortunately this moniker was stripped away after some schlub from UK died in an “alcohol related incident.” Shit happens, people die. It’s no reason to take away the joy of seeing 75 football players dance around a beer barrel. Kentucky blew it against UGA last week, and UT saved their season with a dramatic comeback over Vandy. Can they save Phat Phil’s job with a win in Lexington????

Where were you KY? Thanks for totally fucking laying down like a bunch of little bitches. I hope Andre Woodson’s draft status has dropped dramatically. I mean all I wanted from the Wildcats was one (and then another) measly victory against and smoking hot UGA team, and what did they do, totally blow it. Screw Kentucky. Oh yea, I guess I’m gonna root for them though. If UT goes to the SEC Championship game, then the only other SEC team that would have an outside shot at a BCS bowl game would be UGA and I really hate the Bulldogs.

It’s official. I hate Georgia more than any other team. For a team that lost two games they are the cockiest bunch of douchebags on earth. Back to this game, I’m openly rooting for the Vols to win the East. I’d much rather see them play LSU than watch UGA play another game and watch there players celebrate 2 yard gains. As for KY, I’ve given Woodson too much credit. The guy holds on to the ball WAY too long and takes sacks like they are a positive stat. He will get his yards against the shaky but improved UT defense. However, in the end its doubtful that the Mildcats will stop the Vols on more than two possessions. The Beer Barrel will be property of the Vols.

This should be a good after lunch Saturday football game: with a win, Rocky Top has a shot in the SEC title game and Kentucky is trying to get their mojo back after dropping 4 of the last 6 games. Does everyone remember the Tide ROLLLING all over Rocky Top earlier this year? Ha-Ha! Suck it Fat Phil! The almost lost last weekend to Vandy, so I’m going with Kentucky. I just hope the football team isn’t already waiting for March Madness like the rest of the school and state.

Under normal circumstances I would probably root for an SEC team against an ACC opponent, but this week I must follow my allegiance for the disdain I feel for Vandie. Wake has never really done anything offensive to me, whereas Vanderbilt’s simple existence is enough to boil my blood. Dang, Wake had a very nice winning streak going on this year, maybe my favoritism isn’t the only reason I should pull for the Deacs. On a side note, how less impressive does that win over Nebraska look in retrospect, I guess its better that Wake lost that game so they wouldn’t have looked back on the game and thought, “man look at how great we were” and then have to realize they were wrong cause the Huskers suck. Did that make sense? Anyways, that was bizarre, let’s go

Man…I never knew this game was dubbed “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.” Which is incredibly fitting because it describes my feelings toward Mark “The Prick” Richt and just about every UGA fan around. Maybe he was on to something with his ongoing manufactured intensity fest, because with it absent last week, the puppies got off to a sluggish start. Richt must have painted his wife as a UK co-ed and had Knowshon, Stafford, Massaquoi and company queue up some bukkake. He may have even joined in. I can’t believe UGA is only a 3.5 point favorite. I thought Tech sucked? Let me confirm this…oh yea they do….UGA rolls to their 7th straight win in this rivalry.

HAHA so some total jerkwater Dawg fan was at the bar last weekend watching the UK game with his prissy girlfriend and no shit he was wearing the UGA uniform. Red shirt, red had, khaki pants (highwaters too, what a fag), croakies for his sunglasses and the absolute kicker was one of those puffy vest type things that looks like sleeveless ski jacket!!! It was classic, oh yea, and not only was he total douche, but he got all upset with us making fun of him, he “didn’t have time for this.” It was priceless. If my team was winning and some mega-sore losers were bashing what I was wearing, I would have made a special point to stay there and celebrate in front of them. I mean he “didn’t have time for this,” he might as well have told us to “hush” or to “quit sassing him.” HAHA it made my day to seem him act like such a puss. Oh yea, I’m taking Jawga in this one, I mean just cause their fans are either total hicks or total pricks doesn’t mean their boys don’t know how to play ball!

This line is a joke. I really don’t like UGA but this is a joke. Georgia Tech is a gimmick blitzing team and they are playing a power run / playaction pass team. I smell mismatch. Additionally, GaTech’s offense is pathetic (sorry E) and the sad ass UGA defense will stop them easily.

I like what Richt is doing at UGA this year. The black jerseys against AW-burn helped the Dawgs bring their A-game. I know it won’t gain me any friends among this group, but the entire team celebrating the TD against Florida looked like an Under Armour commercial:

Apparantly this is called the Sunshine Showdown. I’ve never heard this before. Perhaps I have been blinded by my hatred for F$U. Perhaps I was drunk. Perhaps no one else on Earth knew this either. None of it matters. What matters is that Tebow has his full complement of weapons for the first time this year. Geno Hayes provided bulletin board material for Timmy and the Gators this week with his declaration that “Tebow is going down.” None of this matters either. Timmy is so self-motivated that he doesn’t need bulletin board material. When I first saw this line, I thought F$U’s tough D might make this a close game. Despite being terrified by the loss of Joe Haden and the prospect of Jacques Rickerson seeing the field, I think the emotion of the Swamp will rattle F$U’s shit-bag offense and the Gators will roll.

Good lord this game opened at 14?? After Geno Hayes said that they were basically gonna do their best to hurt Tebow, I’m sure the spread has dropped significantly. I mean they are gonna stop Tebow by any means necessary so that must mean its gonna work cause when the Nole set out to injure an opposing player, history has shown us that they mean it. I have to wonder though. Was it really the smartest thing to come out and say that they were gonna do it? I mean what if by some chance Hayes takes a cheap shot on TT and it actually hurts him? Will they just let it go because good ol’ Bobby is a saint? Anyways, enough of that, I just saw William Floyd (former FSU FB) on SunSports and he basically just said that, sure Florida has Tebow and he’s great, and Bubba Caldwell and he’s great, and other great players, but that doesn’t make them great. Basically he just said that the Gators have great players but they aren’t great. I love that guy! I guess I’ll take the great Gators over the shitty Noles any day of the week…Esp this Saturday.

No trophy for this game either. One would think the Battle for the Palmetto State would offer up Stonewall Jackson’s decapitated arm as a trophy for being the best team in the Secession State. The Cocks have completely fallen off after a promising start and much preseason hype. The only time I watched Clemzzzon was when they ran all over F$U. That was like 200 days ago. You know how I said I would typically not root for an ACC school over an SEC school? Well I guess you can forget all about that. I really enjoyed their campus and always had fun visiting up there, but I really don’t care if they win or lose. The same can’t be said for the Gamecocks. They are always so fucking, forgive me, cocky, generally without warrant and it just drives me nuts. It drove me to drink the few times I have been there (yea that was it). Anyways, I have no faith in their ability to stop anything or anyone, and that is why I am going with Clemzin’s dual running attack (presumably they are both still healthy of course, see didn’t I mention indifference?), as well as their QB who seems to be doing quite well, as…well. The Cocks have showed me nothing.

I GUESS this game could be as close as 6 points. I mean it’s the “Iron Bowl” and all. But hasn’t Bama just imploded as of late? They’ve lost three straight and the most recent was the most heinous of them all. Louisiana-Monroe for God’s sake!! I mean I picked the Tide not to cover, but I never in my wildest dreams thought they would lose. Its gotten so bad that Nick Saban has compared these recent events to 9/11 and to Pearl Harbor. I supposed its not good to lose in Tuscaloosa, but has it really gotten that bad Satan? Perhaps that was a little bit inappropriate. Anyways, I was gonna try and go this whole issue without talking about football once, but I am a little freaked out by Satans comments to say anything too funny. It looks like Bama is getting the Tigers at a good time. Bran-done Cox was trying to forget about his awful performance against Georgia last year so he had another pitiful showing this year, I guess that worked. Look if the Tide can cut their mistakes down and play tough defense against Auburn, I not only think they can cover, but I think they can win. However, I think its highly unlikely that the Alabama’s players have anything left in the old confidence locker. Let the Tigers get ahead too early and it could be a long night for the Elephants.

Damn, both of these schools have been tearing shit up this year. Mizzou’s only loss this year was to Oklahoma, a team that Kansas hasn’t had to play (yet) this year. With KU and Sooner wins this weekend then that will be case. The Tigers and the Jayhawks have had incredible years, and this game is really as close as the spread implies. A mistake here or there could spell disaster for either team because that is all that will be needed. The curse of the number 2 slot in the polls this year is still in play as KU has to win this game and then go to the Big 12 Championship to make it to New Orleans for the National Championship game, but if they look ahead, they may even get fucked (however unlikely) out of a BCS at-large berth. I say its hard to pick against a team that is as red hot as Kansas right now. They are undefeated, they can still look forward to next week to losing they chance at glory. Rock, Chalk beyatch!
